Jackie Turpin Jr. is the son of pro boxer Jackie Turpin. His uncles were former World Middleweight ChampionRandy Turpin, and former British Middleweight Champion Dick Turpin.

Turpin started as an amateur at age 8. He was trained as an amateur by his uncle Randolph Turpin. In 1971, he was voted British Rookie of The Year, after going 12-0 (11 knockouts) for the year. He was managed by George Middleton, and promoted by Jack Solomons.
