Jimmy O'Hagan was from Albany, New York. He started as a featherweight and grew into a middleweight. He was managed by Dan O'Connell in his early career, and later by John Reisler and by Jimmy Betts.

The record of O'Hagan shows all but two of his presently known or suspected fights. He may have boxed George Guzzo in 1916 in Geneva, New York, winning on newspaper decision in 10 rounds, but this fight has not been verified from newspapers.

Paul Zabala, who is the main compiler of this record, also had listed a fight between O'Hagan and Battling Thomas in Troy, New York, September 15, 1919, but again this has not been confirmed. One factor which makes the Battling Thomas fight seem unlikely is that O'Hagan met Young Ahearn in a scheduled 15-rounder in Marieville (suburb of Providence), Rhode Island, on September 17.

A record for O'Hagan was published in IBRO Journal No. 55, pp. 110-112: [1].
