  • Unofficial AP scorecard - 94-92 Giambra
  • Unofficial UPI scorecard - 95-94 Giambra
  • Giambra was a 24 hour substitute for Joey Archer, who broke several ribs during a training session during the week.
  • Reno, Nevada promoter, Bill Miller, asked the Nevada Athletic Commission to formally request that the WBA suspend Joey Giambra indefinitely for running out on an April 11th bout with Eddie Andrews in Reno. Miller stated that the Giambra camp asked permission to take the last minute Denucci fight in Boston before the April 11th card, but Giambra failed to show. The Denucci fight turned out to be Giambra's last fight and Eddie Andrews eventually met Don Fullmer a week later on the 18th to fulfill the Reno contract.

"Young Joe Denucci piled up points with a whirlwind attack in the early rounds Saturday night, then withstood a late offensive by ranking middleweight Joey Giambra to win a nationally televised 10 round split decision. Denucci took the play away from the stronger-punching Giambra in the early rounds and coupled a good left jab with a right hand body attack to forge ahead. But Giambra came on strong in the late rounds and had his shorter opponent reeling in the 8th round when Denucci all but stumbled back to his corner."
