'Judge' Joe Flanagan really wasn't a judge. He was a Portland, Oregon attorney who found managing boxers more profitable. March 20, 1918 Tacoma Times [1].
His last name sometimes was spelled as "Flannigan" or 'Flanigan."
Flanagan's clients included Jack Dillon, Muff Bronson, Fred Gilbert and Al Sommers.
As World War I was coming to a close, Flanagan left Seattle, WA, USA, for France, to serve in the Knights of Columbus Corps. He died en route and was buried at sea October 16, 1918. Seattle Post-Intelligencer
