"Ken Buchanan of Scotland, world lightweight boxing champion, rallied after a slow start Tuesday night and scored a TKO victory over Venezuela's Carlos Hernandez in the 8th round of a scheduled 10 round non-title fight. Buchanan, cut over the left eye in the 6th, came on strong in the opening seconds of the 8th. He sent the Venezuelan reeling into a corner with two stinging left jabs, then followed with a barrage of punches which prompted referee Sid Nathan to stop it after 30 seconds of the round." - Associated Press
- Buchanan's cut required six stitches to close and postponed his title defense at Madison Square Garden against Ismael Laguna from its original date of June 9th until September.
