One of the many Liberty Halls of the United States, this Liberty Hall was the primary boxing venue of Bellingham, Washington, during the 1920s and early 1930s.
It had been built in 1918, at the foot of Commercial Street, by the local American Legion Post. The south side was perched on pilings overlooking the town's original marine shoreline. It had a capacity of about 1,500 for boxing.
Future World Middleweight Champion Freddie Steele had his pro debut here, Nov. 10, 1926.
Incidentally, the April 30, 1925 Bellingham American newspaper reported that Bellingham had been the world's wrestling Mecca in 1904, during which time Frank Gotch won the title.
