Lonnie Tucker was managed and trained by his twin sister Elizabeth Tucker. (Very early in his career, however, he had been managed by Hardy Downing. [1]) He was the brother of fellow boxer Frankie Tucker (who went by the name Bud Tucker early in his career in Utah).

It was reported that the family was of Cherokee heritage. [2] They may have originally come to the Salt Lake City area from Kansas City, Missouri.
