"Overcoming the handicap of a cut over his right eye, Lou Nova, Van Nuys, Calif., punched out a decisive 10 round decision over Gunnar Barlund, veteran Finn, at the St. Nick's Arena Friday night. Nova suffered the cut in the 4th round and at the time it looked like the bout might be stopped. His seconds stopped the flow of blood, however, and Nova finished strongly to nearly KO Barlund in the 9th and 10th rounds." -Associated Press
