Mike (Dummy) Rowan began fighting professionally in 1893. The Nov. 8, 1910, Tacoma Daily News reported that "Dummy" Rowan was a street contractor in Ellensburg, WA, USA, while his brother, Silent Rowan, was working at Carsten's packing house in Tacoma, WA. The Associated Press reported that he died Dec. 25, 1929, in Wilbur, WA, USA.

Per the Tacoma Daily News of Dec. 9, 1908:

  • He had fought during the late 1800s in the Los Angeles area.
  • By the early 1900s his hometown was Anaconda, Montana.
  • By 1908, both he and his brother were living in Tacoma, WA, training other boxers.
  • It is believed that originally he was from Illinois.

Per the Tacoma Daily News of Nov. 8, 1910, he was a street contractor at Ellensburg, WA.

Also see the Daily News Searchlight newspaper of Bremerton, WA, USA, Feb. 28, 1923, for an article on Rowan, then 48-years-old. He had been born in Gardner, Grundy County, Illinois on April 4, 1875. He started boxing in 1894.

His last bout was in 1912, reportedly against Bob Fitzsimmons at Anaconda, Montana (a three-round no-decision). Rowan claimed to have knocked out former champion Jack Johnson before Johnson won the world heavyweight title. This allegedly occurred at Waco, Texas.
