Not to be confused with his fellow deaf-mute boxing brother Mike (Dummy) Rowan, Silent Rowan reportedly was left a deaf-mute by a case of the measles. He was still alive and healthy as of 1939, giving physical culture exhibitions with American Indian clubs.

The Tacoma Daily News mentioned that the Rowan brothers were scheduled to have bouts in nearby Port Townsend, WA, on Saturday, Jan. 2, 1909; and, per the Jan. 9 edition, that Port Townsend promoter Billy Reaume, the manager of a large department store, planed to have Silent Rowan remain there all winter.
