Peck Miller
Name: Peck Miller
Hometown: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
Pro Boxer: Record
Manager: Joe Kennedy
This record for Peck Miller was compiled by Luckett Davis on January 7, 2005, mainly from the PHILADELPHIA ITEM (microfilms in the possession of L. Davis) and the PHILADELPHIA PUBLIC LEDGER results, from Paul Zabala.
Miller evidently began his career in 1908, as indicated. The completeness of this record is difficult to guess; probably there are a few more fights yet to be found.
From the 21st Ward Hall of Fame:
Peck is considered to be one of the best fighters to come out of the 21st Ward. His career spanned thirteen years of professional boxing in the 1920's. He has over 100 pro bouts to his credit. He learned his trade at Boat House Row along the Schuylkill River and met some of the nation's top middle weights during his career. He went ten rounds with Light heavyweight, Barney Williams, who went on to win the Division Title. He traveled around the county, putting on exhibition fights with Jack Johnson, who had been the Heavyweight Champion of the World. Although outweighed by 40 pounds, Peck was never knocked down during these exhibitions. He has emerged up through the years as, not only a tough and courageous fighter, but one who commanded respect for his punching and boxing ability.
