Roberto Balado Mendez, born February 15, 1969 at Jovellanos, Matanzas, Cuba, was the 1992 Olympic Super Heavyweight gold medalist. He also won gold at the World Championships three times (Moscow 1989, Sydney 1991, and Tampere 1993), Pan American Games (Havana 1991), World Junior Championships (1987) and was the Cuban National Champion five times, from 1990 to 1994.
He died in a car accident on July 2, 1994 at age 25.
