- Cotto won every round except the third. In the ninth, Martinez' knee appeared to (but didn't) touch the canvas for a 10-8 Cotto round.
- Cotto stated after the bout: "The most beautiful training camp in my career." Cotto also cut Martinez over the right eye.
- Martinez said "I got hit. I was cold, and I never recovered from that. You gotta know when to win, and you gotta know when to lose."
