This show enraged and disgusted the crowd of 2,500 because of the poor showing by the visiting boxers from Hugh Shannon's stable, and they demanded refunds. Each of his boxers was "booed and hissed as he left the ring." The local newspaper suggested that Shannon and his stable should be banned in Montreal. "Professional boxing in Montreal was dealt a blow last night from which it will not recover for some time to come." Montreal Gazette.

Montreal City Alderman Bray pledged to ban prize-fighting, at least until a boxing commission was appointed, which was done that April when the Montreal Athletic Commission was established.
