This was the inaugural boxing card at the Olympic Auditorium, which would hold approximately 2,700 shows until 2005. Heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey attended the program, and was introduced to the crowd. James J. Jeffries and actor Rudolph Valentino were also in attendance. Picato substituted for Dandy Danny Dillon, who had come down with a stomach illness.
