Ray Robinson 144 lbs beat Maxie Berger 146 lbs by TKO at 1:43 in round 2 of 12
- Date: 1942-02-20
- Location: Madison Square Garden, New York, New York, USA
- Referee: Frank Fullam
- Judge: Marty Monroe
- Judge: George LeCron
“The result was pretty much as expected, as bettors had made Robinson a 1-to-5 favorite, but it was a feat of high proportions because the Canadian, veteran of 100 fights, had never been stopped. Originally, Cochrane was to have fought Robinson Friday night, but Red was unable to obtain leave to train so Berger was handed the match. Berger was down twice in the second round before the referee halted the match. A left hook sent Maxie down for the count of seven. As he arose Robinson was on him, looping to the face with both hands. Berger toppled under a right uppercut and as he arose at the count of two, Referee Fullam called things off.”
