Weaver knocked out Coetzee in the 13rd round. Coetzee won several rounds earlier in the fight, including the 8th round in which he landed a series of devastating right hands to the head but was unable to finish off Weaver or even knock him down. Coetzee also landed an unusually large number of punishing body punches in this fight. But Weaver, who was 215 pounds of solid muscle and superbly conditioned, was able to absorb this punishment and hold on to eventually win the fight.
