Tony Galento vs. Nathan Mann
Tony Galento 232 lbs beat Nathan Mann 192 lbs by KO at 2:04 in round 2 of 10
- Date: 1938-05-13
- Location: Madison Square Garden, New York, New York, USA
- Referee: Arthur Donovan
"Two-Ton Tony Galento, 232, the barrel-shaped gent from New Jersey, knocked out Nathan Mann, 191 3/4, New Haven, Conn., in the 2nd round of a 10-round heavyweight bout at MSG tonight. Tony connected solidly with only four punches in the two rounds the fight lasted, but each of them nearly took Mann's head off. Mann was counted out as he rested on one knee near Galento's corner at 2:04 of the 2nd round. He was floored early in the session for a nine-count when Galento crashed a left hook, a straight right and another left against his chin, but managed to weather that storm. Less than a minute later, however, Tony flatted him with another left hand and referee Arthur Donovan tolled the full ten over him." -Associated Press
Post-fight comment
- "Y'know, I was a little afraid to get rough in there. With all them military guys like General Phelan sitting ringside, I had to go easy." -Tony Galento
