Vic Drakulich is one of nine children born to a Serbian father, Duke Drakulich, who coached high school football, and an Italian mother. Drakulich excelled in high school and was named to the all-state honorable mention team as a defensive end for his football team. He is a 1979 graduate from the Pacific McGeorge School of Law and, outside of boxing, is a personal injury and insurance attorney.

Drakulich came to boxing in the the early 1980s, when he began working corners for amateur fights. He was later asked if he would like to judge. Judging turned into refereeing and in 1985, Drakulich was contacted by the Nevada Athletic Commission to enter the professional ranks. He primarily works bouts in the state of Nevada, but has also referred in Panama, Thailand, Mexico, Germany, Japan, and Costa Rica. [1] [2]

In 2010, he was named Referee of the Year by the WBC.

2009

• Z Gorres vs. Luis Melendez - Gorres was placed in a medically-induced coma after collapsing in his corner following the bout. Doctors found a subdural hematoma to his brain, and Gorres underwent emergency surgery to relieve swelling. He remained in critical condition for a week, and although he did not box again, he was able to make a full recovery.

• Julio Cesar Green vs. Lonnie Beasley - In the final round, Beasley had been rocked and was attempting to clinch to hold himself up. When Drakulich separated the fighters, Beasley fell backward and down to the canvas. When Beasley struggled to get to his feet, Drakulich waved an end to the bout. He reportedly later said, "If they're not able to remain standing when you break them up, they shouldn't be allowed to fight."
