Re: British Heavyweight Title Lineage

There's so little between Slack and Tom Johnson, that it's really impossible to reconstruct the lineage with any certainty. If you look at the contemporary sources there are a number of fights that contradict the tradional lineage. There doesn't seem to be any record of Tom Juchau and George Milsom ...

Jem Mace had this one at 66, but it was a pretty friendly sparring session reading the reports, with the crowd being allowed to give the decision.

I looked up how the black fighters mentioned did against non-black heavyweights who got shot against Louis. Turkey Thompson - Beat Godoy, was 2-0 vs Gus Dorazio, 0-2 vs Pastor, had a draw with both Simon and Tony Musto. Jimmy Bivins - Beat Tammy Mauriello, lost to Musto, 1-1 vs Pastor. Lem franklin...

Re: What would Sugar Ray Robinson, Alì, Roberto Duran(...) have done if they had brittle bones disease like Mayweather J

He's prone to hand injuries, he doesn't have brittle bone disease. If they had much worse hands, Robinson and Ali could just fought more and range, and threw lighter punches. Duran would have a much harder time. Tons of fighters have had hand issues to one extent or another, especially back when the...

What sort of thing are you looking for? How much do you know already? If you're getting started, the best place to start is next day newspaper reports for fights. Ones from the day of the fight are often good too. https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/10991 Luckily most of his fights were in New York so th...

Re: Is Gene Tunney underrated?

I'd say mostly rated fairly and at times overrated.

Really a pretty shallow record outside of his series with Greb. His HW resume consists almost entirely of beating shot Dempsey twice, once coming off a three year layoff, and coming off a fight he deserved to lose to Jack Sharkey.

Marvin Hart Vs George Gardner

The fight was actually scheduled for 20 rounds, but Hart quit at the end of the 12 claiming a broken right hand, so the referee declared Gardner the winner.

WDQ5 Jimmy Britt really shouldn't be included. Britt beat the shit out of Gans until getting DQ'd for hitting Gans while down.
Griffo was pretty shot when Gans beat him too

Edit: 3: Looks like he had a good few exhibitions at that venue, do you know the specific date?

That one is usually referred to as as fix. Why the newspapers did bring this up immediately is interesting. When I searched reports before I found 6 saying it was legit, 4 calling it a fix or questionable, and 3 with no explicit comment (which I would take as legit). Probably some I missed. There w...

From what I've seen the reports are all over the place, but Corbett seems to have been doing better when it was stopped.

There's also a lot of questionableness in if the Corbett McCoy fight was a fix too, the majority of next day reports I've seen don't call it a fix.

I just want to add a bit of context to that tournament (which I never came close to finishing because there wasn't much interest, and I ended up being a bit unhappy with the selection of fighters I made), I basically included anyone suggested, I think I ended up including 128 fighters, so naturally ...

Good question, I don't have the answer, but an interesting point no one has brought up is that teenage refers to the ages that end in "teen" and so nineteen is in fact teenage.

That's probably a big part of it. Women's boxing has so few names, one of them losing would be a big problem.
