Re: Kostya Tszyu - seriously overrated.
First off, where do you think he's rated in the first place? And why is that position so untenable to you? It seems to me the general consensus is that he was a good champion who had good power but some flaws. He was definitely the best 140 pounder in the world for about a 5 year period and would pr...

Re: Jack Carroll
Fantastic subject, one of Australia's greatest and very, very underrated.
In 1936 he was ranked the no. 1 contender for Barney Ross's welterweight title by Ring Magazine.
Good luck with it, would love to read it some day.

Re: Time wasting, Geeze we have had some good ones.
Sorry, but Les Darcy in the same class as Anthony Mundine? Even by 21 Darcy's accomplishments were far greater than Mundine could ever imagine (and we all know his imagination is a "1"). eg. In his last fight Les knocked out George Chip - in Chip's previous fight he had beaten Harry Greb. ...

For 12 rounds I'd be desperately hoping Jackson could catch him but I doubt it would happen. Floyd by a wide margin.

Re: Ali vs Jefferies Poll
Ali wins easily. The advancement in Boxing Skill from Jeffries' time to Ali's time was so drastic that it would look like Ali was fighting a guy who had never laced up a pair of gloves. Exactly. In any sport with measurable performances, such as track and field, the times/distances etc had increase...

Re: James J. Jeffries '1902' vs. Muhammad Ali '1974' ~ 25-Rounds
After 15-Rounds Muhammad Ali would be ahead in Rounds 11-2-2, but his hands would be so sore, that he would not be able to maintain any heavy punch-rate. 'Big Jeff' then walks Muhammad down like a Dragon following an injured Leopard. Thudding body blows into the 'ribs, kidneys, liver and stomach' h...

Re: Jerry Quarry 'Selected as Muhammad Ali's Comeback Opponent'
Grevan, you filthy word-twister I never said Jerry Quarry was 'washed up' when he fought Muhammad Ali n October 1970. The phrase was 'washed up and worn out' in December 1969 after getting KO'd by George Chuvalo. Words used by Teddy Brenner of Madison Square Garden. And, most boxing pundits felt th...

Re: Jerry Quarry 'Selected as Muhammad Ali's Comeback Opponent'
FFS, when will this rubbish end? Now Quarry was "washed up" when Ali beat him. Simple question Il Duce: Is there anyone who you consider Ali beat in their prime? ie. they weren't handicapped, too old, too slow, too fat, too small, too young, one armed, retarded, blind in one eye etc etc. A...

Butterbean I think his 'competition' falls a wee bit short though. Maybe a 'special division' should be started for Eric Esch. "The Greatest Cable Television Fighter of Four-Rounders" Well, if you're going to include level of competition as a criteria then you'd have to consider that guy ...

What's your definition of "greatest heavyweight champion"? A 'Great Heavyweight Champion' not only wins, but totally dominates and devastates the competition. A 'Take-No-Prisoners' type of 'Warrior'. No games,,,,,,,,,, One who had 'no' losses in his most important bouts, and when he was w...

Peter Jackson
Went 61 rounds with James Corbett, stopped Peter Maher and George Godfrey, held the "World Colored Heavyweight Title" for 8 years and apparently John L Sullivan wouldn't fight him because he was black. Possibly the best of all non-title holders.

Unless you throw "cruisers" like Marciano or Dempsey into the mix I doubt there's any combination of match-ups that wouldn't see Holyfield as the winner.

These constant anti-Ali posts are a fascinating case study. Obviously driven by inherent racism and some sort of resentment of Ali's fame, you wonder where it will end. I mean, we've read of his struggles with Jean-Pierre Coopman and Rudi Lubbers lately - can only assume there's an Ali-Richard Dunn ...
