Great post. I agree with everything you've said, even the potential PPV numbers. This fight seems to be getting more coverage than Hatton - PBF. I've had so many people who don't normally watch boxing ask me about this that it's unreal! It's been mentioned on every channel on a variety of different programs ranging from shitty lifestyle programs all the way to BBC national news.exittored wrote:People who are predicting under 250,000 have no understanding of how a PPV Event works.
This event has had heavy media coverage on both Sky and The Scum newspaper which is seen and read by around 10 million people between them. On top of that pretty much every Broadsheet and Tabloid has had major coverage plus has been entensively featured on various BBC and ITV programs featuring David Haye interviews.
Every fight has to have a 'SELLING POINT' to make the Buyer part with their £15 and this fight has that USP of 'DAVID against GOLIATH'. Haye the young handsome articulate British fighter in against a 7FT Beast(media portrayal, not my words) of a man is just an Easy sell and the less people know about Valuev being nothing special the better.
The is the kind of fight that the 'CASUAL'S' who maybe watch 1 fight every few years will watch, these same 'CASUAL'S' probably last watched Hatton vs Mayweather which did 1.5 million PPV's which is astonishing when you consider the fight was on at 4am and i'm sure Haye can do at least a third of that figure at 10pm peak time viewing.
Sure Hatton had a far bigger fanbase but i'd say the level of Media coverage for the Haye fight has now surpassed that especially as its a lot cheaper to send someone to Germany to report on the fight plus being able to get the fight into print the next day.
I predicted earlier in the week that Haye vs Valuev could do at least 500,000 PPV's, i'm now going to say that it will do at least that and maybe alot more and fall somewhere into the 750,000-1,000,0000 bracket. The only thing that can keep the PPV's down is if the X-Factor run's over into 10pm and stops men from switching over to see the Fight and i'm being serious about that.
Upwards of 500k sounds realistic to me.
