exittored wrote:People who are predicting under 250,000 have no understanding of how a PPV Event works.

This event has had heavy media coverage on both Sky and The Scum newspaper which is seen and read by around 10 million people between them. On top of that pretty much every Broadsheet and Tabloid has had major coverage plus has been entensively featured on various BBC and ITV programs featuring David Haye interviews.

Every fight has to have a 'SELLING POINT' to make the Buyer part with their £15 and this fight has that USP of 'DAVID against GOLIATH'. Haye the young handsome articulate British fighter in against a 7FT Beast(media portrayal, not my words) of a man is just an Easy sell and the less people know about Valuev being nothing special the better.

The is the kind of fight that the 'CASUAL'S' who maybe watch 1 fight every few years will watch, these same 'CASUAL'S' probably last watched Hatton vs Mayweather which did 1.5 million PPV's which is astonishing when you consider the fight was on at 4am and i'm sure Haye can do at least a third of that figure at 10pm peak time viewing.

Sure Hatton had a far bigger fanbase but i'd say the level of Media coverage for the Haye fight has now surpassed that especially as its a lot cheaper to send someone to Germany to report on the fight plus being able to get the fight into print the next day.

I predicted earlier in the week that Haye vs Valuev could do at least 500,000 PPV's, i'm now going to say that it will do at least that and maybe alot more and fall somewhere into the 750,000-1,000,0000 bracket. The only thing that can keep the PPV's down is if the X-Factor run's over into 10pm and stops men from switching over to see the Fight and i'm being serious about that.
Great post. I agree with everything you've said, even the potential PPV numbers. This fight seems to be getting more coverage than Hatton - PBF. I've had so many people who don't normally watch boxing ask me about this that it's unreal! It's been mentioned on every channel on a variety of different programs ranging from shitty lifestyle programs all the way to BBC national news.

Upwards of 500k sounds realistic to me.

Really?

Have a look at this list - it's based on USA PPV figures, and bear in mind that not only does the US have a WAY bigger installed user base who have access to PPV - but they also have a population five times the size of the UK.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pay-per-view

In the US, Hatton v Mayweather achieved 900,000 - that was the biggest fight featuring a british fighter since Turpin took on Robinson!

There is no way in gods earth this fight is going to do upwards of 500,000.

Not regularly. Figures aren't always all that reliable.

Didn't Hatton PBF do 1.2m buys over here though?

yes it did and at 4am, with all the coverage on the TV, Papers and Radio plus then fan friendly time of the fight i think this is going to do big numbers
Same here. The 1.2m for Hatton was amazing and I'd be surprised if this did the same amount but with the amount of coverage it's had it's certainly possible.

This will do a hell of a lot of PPV buys. I play in a Pool team on Monday nights and the other 8 players are football fans, not interested in Boxing. They are all talking about the fight and are all buying it.

Hell I went for dinner at a mates last Saturday and even the women were talking about it.

This has really caught the publics imagination. Good job, cause Haye is a real fighter, he doesnt do hand picked. The only other active british fighter I can say that about is Carl Froch.

Until yesterday I was thinking about 200k, but after seeing the sheer scale of both ads and Murdoch 'ad/news' I think it will do just over 500k. Pals and workmates are talking about it. Haye has been everywhere.

Does anyone know how the financials work out for Haye. So his purse is linked to PPv buys but how much? Sky have spent a huge amount advertising this.

I was also pretty surprised to learn Hayemaker have given Sauerland a piece of David's next three fights should he win.

According to the article below there were between 900,000 and 1 mill buys in the UK. Seems all that hard work promoting the fight has paid off for David.

Kevin Mitchell really has a man crush on David Haye. He is already going on about how the shots that briefly hurt Valuev would have leveled Vitali, how Haye should already be regarded as one of the best heavyweights of the era, and he doesn't seem to check up his facts. According to him the Klitschkos are Russian and no opponent has ever made Valuev look frustrated. What a biased writer.

He also thinks Haye is now the biggest draw in boxing. I guess he doesn't realize the Klitschkos make up to $15 million a fight and consistently pack 45,000 people into arenas.
the decision went his way 114-114, 116-112 and 116-112, according to judges. They must have been watching a fight other than the one good judges reckoned was a much easier night's work for Haye than those scores indicate. Some ringside observers found it difficult to give Valuev a single round, so easily did Haye make him miss.

Actually most people thought the scores were just fine or too wide Kevin.

For fvck's sake, leave it out.

Can't we whine & be supercilious about one of our blokes who fails to fight top challenges, please? It's fvcking depressing listening to some of you lot sometimes.

Anyone would think you didn't like boxing, nor wish for it to be successful.

FFS than get off the forum if you don't like opinions that arn't the same as yours. I can't stand phony writers who are up a guys ass and report biased filled crap filled with numerous fallacies, maybe you do but I don't. Anyone who scored the fight 11-0-1 for Haye has no business giving their take on a fight.

delighted to see this fight do near a million PPVs. Sky promoted this fight hugely and along with Haye who was everywhere last week did a great job. I was disappointed with the production values of the fight and the fight itself but overall its a good day for boxing. With Haye doing these kinda numbers and 40% german TV viewership figures its clear to see the sport is thriving on this side of the atlantic. Also to add to this we had martin rogan selling 8500 seast in belfast and mcloskey doing 2500 in derry. Great stuff
