All about finances at moment mate , had a couple of backers lined up that fell through so decided id rather raise the funds myself and then if it goes tits up then its only my own money thats effected not anyone else's .

The way i see it is that id rather have a go and fail than wonder if i could have done it , theres people who do things and theres people who talk about doing things without ever actually taking the risk .

As daft as it sounds my ambition in life is to have a news flash come up on the likes of sky etc when ive died , ill obviously never know if it happened anyway but my familly would get some joy out of it to cheer them up after ive gone , that wont happen by sitting on my backside , i could just go through the motions and live a boring life but thats not me .

My original aim from the start was always to turn pro in 2014 so that i could build up my knowledge , contacts etc etc and have a few of the unlicensed lads turn over to the pro's with me , but ive kind of missed out a bit there as a few from my shows have already gone pro and a couple almost ready to , remains to be seen if ill join them in the pro's in 2014 , especially now that im getting married in June 2014 too which isnt cheap to do nowdays but im still aiming for it , if i have to delay it til ive got an amount im comfortable with then i will do , i dont want to just get by , i want to have enough to make sure i can beat other people to prospects turning over etc if needed .

I am sure you could find somebody to put the bond up with the board for you as a loan to you coz as I said I am sure you will do well and there is vast potential in nottingham for the right promotor who works hard at it

Its always a potential idea , but you can count on it that someone will want their moneys worth and probably more .

Whilst on the subject of shows , in the video link attached below is what i did for my half time entertainment , im trying to weigh up if it was worth while or a waste of time , didnt cost anything though , its actual footage from my show .

In all fairness mate....I noticed this thread when you posted it a couple weeks back, but Garey is a mate of mine, we've trained together in the past and used to work together, so naturally enough I went and told him the few interesting snippets on the thread. Though you were fed quite a bit of duff in all honesty. Some of the disrespect shown by some on the thread was out of order. Garey has been out of action for a few years now, but he's one of those types who genuinely does always stay in decent condition. Certainly I knew he has more left to offer than many here seemed to think.

A quick look at your lads record showed he could bang a bit, but obviously the quality of opposition on the white collar circuit is questionable. But the performances against the couple pro's were a bit noteworthy. Thorpe not so much because he can't punch, but to run Conception close was interesting.

Regarding the fight on Friday, I thought your lad showed in defeat he's definitely useful. He had a bit of size advantage over Garey, but even so he was more than holding his own for 2 and a half rounds. He's obviously still raw but showed strength and genuine power. As Garey's mate I was worried and thought your man had edged the first couple. And he was having a solid 3rd round too until getting dropped. The last thing a fighter loses is his power and Garey could always punch. And he was then able to finish things off in the 4th. On paper a 4th round stoppage appears routine, but speaking honestly I felt relieved when it was over.

As a friend of Garey's I think I'd like to see him call it a day now. Imo he's got more to lose than gain by carrying on because as a former commonwealth title challenger he'd be a good scalp for an up and comer to have on their slate, while he's only really fighting for fun now. But it definitely looks like he wants to carry on and have a few more.

Just out of interest what was your take on the fight and would your lad be interested in a rematch?

If im perfectly honest , i thought he would be past it and that it would be a name on my lads record which ive since told gary , of course gary showed he is still very fit and strong , my lad was winning the fight according to the judges ,personally im not sure , he definately won rd 2 and was ahead in rd 3 , but in the corner i thought gary won the 1st rd although everyone we spoke to after disagreed with me on that and admittedly its not easy to score a fight in the corner as emotions are high etc , but i just thought it was a close round and being the away fighter assumed it would have gone to gary , but he got caught eventually and having never been down before he didnt know what to do to alter things , and to be perfectly honest neither did i in his corner as im not usually in peoples corners i just ended up having to on the day and when i have been in corners lately its not usually when competing with guys of garys level .

Im happy with the fight to a certain extent , as Brendan showed he could hang in that company , and despite the loss received a lot of praise , He can learn from that fight , at this point in time a loss doesnt matter , its nothing official , He has said he wants to rematch Gary again before he turns pro , its kind of given him a renewed drive as he was desperately dissapointed to have lost , he didnt think it should have been stopped , although i disagree , i think the stoppage was right .

As far as my lad being bigger , thats not true , Gary weighed in at 11 stone , Brendan was 10 stone 9 .

Yes theres things to work on , but after 20 months of boxing i should think its obvious he isnt the finished article , but at 23 he hasnt got a vast amount of time on his side , i doubt theres many guys who have been boxing for as short a time as he has that could handle being the company he has in his fights .

Hes out again in Leeds in a few weeks , Hes then on my home show in July before competing back in stoke in the cash fighter , whom im led to believe Russo is his main competition in that , i didnt see much of his fight at the end so ive no idea what Russo is capable of yet .

Gary was very respectful afterwards and seems a top bloke , and the organiser Stef also seemed a nice guy .

Very honest thoughts mate....I think you're probably being a bit harsh on yourself.

I thought Brendan edged the 1st, had a decent 2nd and he definitely rattled Gary in the 3rd before getting clipped. Perhaps he could have looked to hold on in the 4th, but from what I could tell his style is aggressive like Garey's and its not really in his nature to hold back.
I expected your fella to be useful, but I thought he'd be taken to school a bit on the inside and where Garey would find some spaces to slip sneaky inside shots through, while Brendan would struggle to thread those needles. But that wasn't the case as inside they fought on even terms. I thought Brendan's youth and size edge(I know you mentioned the scales, but I think it looked clear in the fight that your fella was naturally bigger)served him well, until he just got nailed and without a doubt Garey can genuinely bang.
I agree it was a fair stoppage. He shipped some heavy shots and looked woozy. He's clearly got heart though if he's already said he wants a rematch.
As far as my lad being bigger , thats not true , Gary weighed in at 11 stone , Brendan was 10 stone 9 .

Yeah without a doubt your fighter showed potential and has done very well in such a relatively short space of time. I wish him well, though obviously not if he does rematch Garey.

Russo got a decent win. Stopped his opponent who definitely fancied his chances going in. Russo is busy and puts his punches together well, but it took quite a lot of real clean hits before he got the stoppage. Most definitely if Brendan showed the ability to stand with Garey Reid, then he would have a good chance at toppling Russo. Your fella can bang, and Russo didn't appear the hardest to hit. He seemed quite willing to trade. That'd be an interesting encounter.

:TU: Its getting extremely difficult to match him on the unlicensed shows now , which means in all honesty i dont really have much choice on matching him hard , it is what i want for him right now anyway but its all there is left regardless .

With regards to you saying you think gary should call it a day , a lot will depend on his own fire and desire within himself , he might want to see how much hes got left etc , but id suggest that beating brendan is about as good as its going to get for him on the unlicensed shows , he can probably earn a few quid beating on lower level guys but as far as genuine contests id say theres probably only around 5 lads in the whole country who i know of that would be competitive with him .

If he needs the money then he can earn descent from it , but if its just to see what hes got left then theres not much out there for him so might only have another 2 or 3 anyway , But others , like i did myself , will be looking at taking a bit of a scalp , does he really want to be used to make someone elses name ?

I wish him well whichever way he choses , but from the conversation ive had with stef on facebook this morning i think it does sound like hes going to look at getting a few more fights if he can .

really interesting post mate, and I'd definitely agree with the bolded bit, anybody without any Am experience going punch-for-punch with Concepcion can clearly box a fair bit

Just remember the name guys , Brendan Urquhart , He will at very least be involved in some exciting bouts due to the nature of his style .

Conversations have been had since the Reid fight , Had a proposal to make pro debut in September , Were going to sit down and have a discussion about it , His trainer will also need to take out a pro License too as Brendan doesnt want to move gym , and i know brendans dad will be somebody whos opinion he will value in assessing the next move too .

What Weight is Doran Boxing at ? as a pro hes been as high as 161lbs and as low as 152 , at the lower end its a possibility but not the upper end , would be too heavy .

See he's fighting your lad in cash fighter on Aug?

he's a welterweight mate, welsh am champ, went to commonwealth games in OZ, had few pro fights but fell away due to naughtiness. he had lots of hype due to his dad but can fight too.

Doran back at light middle I believe fighting Martin Jolley, remember him?

See he's fighting your lad in cash fighter on Aug?

he's a welterweight mate, welsh am champ, went to commonwealth games in OZ, had few pro fights but fell away due to naughtiness. he had lots of hype due to his dad but can fight too.

Doran back at light middle I believe fighting Martin Jolley, remember him?

Who's your lad in CF? Beer afterwards?
My lads name is Brendan Urquhart , boxed at 11 st in the main but is now a welter.

Its going to be tough , the winner will really need to earn it , i think Reid is the favourite , especially with him being at home.

The thing that im keen to see is if Brendan shows hes learned from his first encounter with Reid .

Yes im up for a beer after mate .

waiting for confirmation but should have 2 lads on the undercard as well .

I have my own show in Nottingham 20th July , Feel free to take a look ...Fight @ the Forum 7 , Forum Nightclub in the city centre . Doors open 12 noon , first bell 12:45 , 23 bouts back to back with no interval and pole dancers on in between bouts . £25 Standards and £35 for Ringsides (although the ringsides are almost gone)
