Clev seemed pretty happy with his display and he should be. I expected that to be less competitive.

Fair Decision.
Fonfara hit a little harder and edged workrate, Clev was more accurate, but couldn't sustain his attacks.

Rematch in Wales and w/o broken nose - Clev would be favourite imo, but Fonfara deserved it tonight.

115-113 Fonfara

Kind of what I expected. Fonfara is good but not much better than Clev.

Surprised it was a close fight I thought Fonfara would have won handily.

Where now for Clev? Domestic/European level?

back to Wales as a co-main to Selby.

Bika?
Ajisafe?
Krasniqi?
Campillo?
Dickinson?

My recording stopped with 90 seconds of the 12th remaining. Fvck Sky, they should have extended the programme.

Terrific performance from Cleverly i knew he had the heart in him to compete at this level again he just got pipped to the post,115-114 Fonfara on my card,i thought the cards would be wider because of the mess of Nathan's face which could sometimes sway judges, his ear went the same way Mitchell's did against Murray

It was an absolute barnstormer of a fight and both guys gave and took a lot,Cleverly rocked Fonfara's head back countless times with uppercuts but faded understandably down the stretch but was still competitive throughout,Fonfara's better engine won it and he probably conserved his energy better than Nathan

Hopefully Cleverly has regained the respect he lost after the Kovalev and Bellew losses

I actually scored that a draw, i had Clev 5-1 up after 6 then gave him the tenth.

I could understand one or two of those closer early rounds going to fonfara, so no complaints about the scores. And I couldn't make much of an argument for Clev in most of those later rounds.
I think the broken nose probably was the decisive factor

But what a bloody good couple of fights. Cleverly could win that in Wales and I feel he can keep pushing on to fight at that kind of level. The confidence is back and theres no benefit of him dropping a level.
I'd try for a re-run of Fonfara or see if the Braemer option is still there for him.

Quite strange. My Sky+ recorded about 12 minutes after the decision. Got the interview, ads, bellew analysis and the credits.

I hope that gives Cleverly a bit more mental confidence. Proven to himself, and others, that he can still compete at world level.

For me, he needs to treat it like any other sportsman, where a loss doesn't matter too much given the circumstance. A footballer coming back from poor form might get benched or subbed off after 60 mins, an athlete might come third or fourth in a few races (look at Ennis before the world champs). Its all about feeling your way back in and getting over the mental block.

Big scrap (in Wales) on a Selby undercard or on a keep busy fight at 5pm on a matchroom / fight pass card next for me.

Well done Clev!

He did very well; if it were me I would drop back to British title level; win the Lonsdale outright and then go for Brahmer.

Well done to Cleverly, nothing wrong with his heart.

Haymon might be keen Cleverly/Beterbiev now, not sure I'd want to see that.

That would be a nightmare match for Cleverly, Beterbiev would destroy him in a rerun of the Kovalev fight. Clev should be targeting Braehmer imo.

Was delighted to see Cleverly looking more like his former self, although he still doesn't look anywhere near where he was before. I actually think he would have beaten Fonfara relatively comfortably if they'd fought 3 or 4 years ago.

I'm not sold on Beterbiev yet however the guy clearly has serious power particularly on the inside. I like Cleverly a lot more after last night but he is made for Beterbiev.

:TU: I agree, Nathan did really well against a strong, rugged fighter in Fonfara but Beterbiev is powerful and ruthless; I'd like Cleverly to box someone without that concussive power - he really does have guts though, to box like that in Chicago takes some doing.
