Haye was a natural talent who could of won titles with any trainer in his corner.
He got his rep for Groves from the DeGale fight. For me this was decided by DeGale switching off like he does in rounds.

Andy lee changed my opinion as I feel he has massively improved under Booth. Lee used to box and come unstuck. He's lost more rounds under Booth but he's somehow gave Lee this huge confidence in his punch and it's paid dividends.
They have over-achieved as I think his win over Korobov was really under-rated. Lees faith in booth is stronger than I've seem from a fighter in a very long time, so it's obvious he's doing something right there.

The proof in the pudding for me will be Ryan Burnett. Hugely talented but raw and in need of polishing. If Booth is as good as some believe we should see a future star and a improvement in coming fights.
For the record I thought he looked poor against Booth.

Lee has been extremely lucky. He was almost banged out by Quillen in 1. He was behind against Jackson, who got overconfident and behind against Korobov before he landed his right hook. I'll agree that his right hook is currently the best punch in boxing but he had it before Booth. Lee was dropping down to 154 only a few fights ago remember. Booth is pretty overrated but one thing he does do is take control and have his fighters fight his way. We saw what happens when Groves tried to do it all his way vs Froch.
Under Booth he seemed to gain the confidence to throw that right hand more.
Before Booth he wasn't knocking top level opponents out.
I don't think Booth has helped technically as we both said he's been behind in his latest fights, but mentally Lee seems stronger under Booth and that's shown in his come from behind victorys.

The harder you work the luckier you get! You don't get 'lucky' that often in top level boxing

Would have 100% win the first with Booth in the corner.

Would he fornicate. I'm sick of Adam Booth fanboys. He's a fucken novice trainer who spouts some dubious psychology and had success with David Haye, what has he done that makes him win fights instead of the fighter? Groves got knocked out twice by Carl, that's what happened and that's what would have happened even if Eddie Futch was in Groves corner.

dbf wrote:Abandoned him many times in the past? Interesting quote from Groves. I think there is a lot more to this. Groves said at the presser that its good to be back in the same gym as Haye and Shane is pushing David more than hes ever been pushed or words to that effect. Sounded like a dig at Booth to me.

Slightly off topic, but I'm sick of hearing Sky calling Booth a 'master tactician' etc. It's just drivel based on the fact the Groves beat Degale and Haye ran from Valuev all night. Hardly took a genius to work out that game plan. Give me a break, Booth is massively overrated.

I've bit my tongue on this for years. Just what has Booth done that gives him this high status? David Haye?? Otherwise clued up posters are always coming in and sayin daft shit like 'he'd have won with Booth in his corner'...why?

Let's have a look at the facts.

Under Adam Booth, he was unbeaten and worked his way up to world title contention. Look what's happened since. Hmmmm.

Keith - was it booth going or just stepping up in levels?

Don't forget he went pretty much life and death with Kenny Anderson.....with booth in the corner

I thought Burnett looked bang average against booth, given all the hype

I think it's both things, but I think Groves is far to aggressive in the ring since leaving Booth. He gets hit more and doesn't have a plan B.

I genuinely think he would have performed better with Booth in his corner.

Froch won both fights by stoppage, pal. I thought that was common knowledge.

George Groves getting stopped on his feet by a terrible decision from the referee in the first fight does not constitute being "knocked out" in any sense of the meaning. Try putting matters in proper context.

Why wasn't Booth telling Lee from the 9th/10th round tonight that he needed to knock BJS out? There seemed to be no urgency in that corner at all when it was clear Lee was behind...

Correct , there was no urgency , no telling him your behind throw some punches for god sake, Booth just seems to think i've got to be calm and cool becaquse thats my image , and tells them fornicate all ,, hence why he whispers in there ear , whats he thinks gonna happen Suanders team have the corner bugged , the inspector was gonna run over and repeat to Tibbs what was said ,, no its not secrecy from the opponent why he whispers in there ear , its to make out he's giving some vital secret plan... and does'nt want critizm .

Haye would of made it under ANY trainer ,, Lee has been very lucky in his last few fights , and Booth is still has smug has ever .

I was happy with the stoppage, Groves had turned his back and the next punches were going to be very dangerous for him. Much like the right hand that sparked him in the rematch. Two stoppage wins for Froch in the books wee pal ;;-)

I though Lee won the fight by 2 points. There were loads of rounds where Saunders landed hardly any punches and Lee threw a couple more. Maybe Booth thought Andy was winning.

Don't know about that? Booth's tactics in Lee's fight against Korobov were Brilliant!

If we are splitting hairs Groves was actually unconscious before he hit the deck in the second fight.

:TU: I agree Ian, George should just say publicly that he has come up short in his attempts, that he will work as hard as possible to rectify his flaws and hopes for another chance to win a title. All the morning and groaning isn't doing him any good, he may well be done though - he's wealthy and may have peaked.

Lee just let his title to, no urgency, no passion and no sense that being a champion meant anything to him. 4 or 5 jabs a round and a smile and tap gloves at the end of a round. To be honest he deserved to lose his title, trying to squeek through and nick a decision - when you see people like Dave Ryan and Hibbert and so many others trying their absolute best to win or keep the British Title. Andy Lee always came across as a decent man but he was very foolhardy last night and he could be done at top level.
