JOHN MCDERMOTT (Holder) v HUGHIE FURY

Hughie Fury withdrew from the above contest.
Why not just fight him?

Why pull out like all of the others?

That's not the attitude of a real fighting man.

If he's too afraid to fight John McDermott then that doesn't bode well for his future.

I doubt he is scared to fight anyone.

He isn't as good as Tyson Fury and Joshua would destroy him.

Is there any evidence this fight was ever going to happen? All I got there was a dead link, I was looking up John and the most recent stuff I could see about him was a very brief thing saying he thought Tyson could beat Wlad, and something saying he favoured Tyson against Haye. Would John even want it? He's not fought for so long, and said before he has no interest in being a journeyman. Anyway the British title is now vacant so it'd make much more sense to go for that.

For now, though, I expect more fights with solid journeymen and maybe a few faded ex-names, and the occasional prospect. Call me crazy, but I'd like to see Hughie in a match with Johahn Duaphas. Why? He's big, he's tough, he keeps coming forward, and has some good power. That's the sort of man that Hughie needs to fight and test his mettle against. That's a guy you pack your lunch and dinner for, and have to constantly be working, else you are in trouble. But, that being said Duhapas is one speed and he can be out boxed (and even out slugged). There's enough holes in his game that a guy like Hughie could take advantage of. As a fan, I'd really love to see Hughie fight the Dillian Whyte's and others on the domestic scene, but I don't see it happening. The idea with Hughie is not to become a British title holder, or European title holder, but to become a genuine contender.
Duhauppas would be too much for Hughie.

I don't know you, I have no reason to trust you or think you are a liar. But the link is dead, and this seems like something that'd be talked about somewhere.

Because it's a business Horse nothing to do with being scared of anyone.

How is winning the English title bad for business?

Unless they think that McDermott will win and that seems like fear to me.

Agree with James.

Is he that good? Only British fighter to ever win gold as a super heavyweight at world junior amateur championships. Dont think they give them away.

His biggest "problem" has been turning pro. Only so many dustmen you can beat before "fans" want to see him step up. Lewis turned pro at 24, joshua was 24, Vitali 25... Hughie turned at 18. Hed be best having 40 odd learning fights, wouldnt he?

He will mostake likely have a fair few more "learning" fights before trying to do anything

He is talented, his gold shows that but I think with the melting pot of British heavyweights their is a good domestic scene and one that I think hughie could mix with now.
I think he'd beat price, Whyte would be a good 50/50 fight, then theirs chisora, haye,AJ all down the line. No need to rush him yet. But fans will want him to step up soon

far less unnessecary hype surrounds hughie and at his age there is really no need to rush him at all.

he has plenty of skills and plenty of time to sharpen them and i think he will be around for a very long time :bag:

I think he's an excellent talent and has already move beyond prospect by easily beating Rudenko (and that was coming back from illness). The Guinn win was good too.

Mick's doing a great job bringing him along and IMO it's amazing the guy is still only 21. He has plenty of time and shouldn't be rushed or getting beaten up, but I hope he will moved into a British title fight this year.

Tyson Fury's at the top of the tree so if Mick and the Fury's time things right there could be a nice passing over of the baton when Hughie is ready to box, and win, a world title.

Must be difficult staying sharp biffing human punchbags about. People who say there's no need to rush Hughie need to consider how this current career path will stall his development. It's rare that a man boxes this many bad fighters for this long and emerges a complete package.

He learns much more in the gym. It's rare that a man has top quality training camps and world class sparring from day one.
