Could have gone either way. But the fact that it’s gone to Jacobs some can’t take it.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑28 Oct 2018, 13:38You were listening to the commentary too much. No, I wasn't. I was watching the fight carefully. Just because Jacobs was more tired at the end of the fight doesn't mean he was the one getting hit harder. That logic is not sound.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑28 Oct 2018, 13:38You were listening to the commentary too much. If you gave Derev the benefit of the doubt in most of the rounds I suppose you could have found a way to give him the decision 114-113, but to act like this was any sort of robbery is absolutely absurd.
Re: Round-by-Round: Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko - October 27, 2018
I don't mind that Jacobs won it at all. It was difficult to score a lot of the rounds; although, I do think Derevyanchenko won rounds 9-12. I just find it hilarious people saying Jacobs dodged or block a lot of shots when he's the one that got broken down by the end of the fight. All those body shots took a toll.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑28 Oct 2018, 14:12Could have gone either way. No robbery here, but I think Derevyanchenko will have improved exponentially after this. His ceiling is a lot higher than Jacobs'.
I mean the guy had a razor close fight with Jacobs after 12 fights with B- to C class fighters.
Quite the fighter Dervyanchenko is, and I just hope he isn't ducked by any of the contenders. I think he'll beat Charlo and Saunders.
Re: Round-by-Round: Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko - October 27, 2018
Jacobs was broken down! He even said in the post-fight commentary that Derevyanchenko had an effect on him. Also, I didn't say at all it was a robbery. Just that it's foolish to say that Jacobs blocked a lot of shots when he was obviously broken down by the 12th.jujigatame wrote: ↑28 Oct 2018, 14:14No, I wasn't. I was watching the fight carefully. Yeh. Derev’s stock has certainly risen after this. Hopefully his next fight is also a decent opponent.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑28 Oct 2018, 14:18 No robbery here, but I think Derevyanchenko will have improved exponentially after this. His ceiling is a lot higher than Jacobs'.

Re: Round-by-Round: Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko - October 27, 2018
He absolutely did block a lot of shots. Derev tired him out by keeping a high pace but he wasn't hurt and most of the cleaner shots throughout were from Jacobs. Derev came on strong in the last few rounds as Jacobs tired, but IMO it was too late after Jacobs dominated the middle of the fight.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑28 Oct 2018, 14:21Jacobs was broken down! And if you don't think it was a robbery I don't know what we're even arguing about.
Re: Round-by-Round: Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko - October 27, 2018
I'm not convinced 6-9 was all Jacobs. Scoring has become so subjective I'm not really concerned about it. It was a close fight that realistically could've gone either way. If it's held in anywhere but the US or UK, Sergiy probably gets the W. I'm more so just sickened by the one-sided narrative via UK or US tv commentary. It's like the story is written beforehand. Just sick of it. Glad HBO is done.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑28 Oct 2018, 07:16From round 6, until the championship rounds was all Jacobs. He took full control. Close fight and Sergiy was impressive but I think he needs to drop his nickname "The Technician" since he relies more on strength than technical prowess. Maybe Sergiy has been inspired by fellow Ukrainian countryman Lomachenko using the "Hi-Tech" nickname, but Loma is far more of a master technician than Derevyanchenko will ever be.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑28 Oct 2018, 15:19Yeh. Cracking fight and the right result. It was competitive throughout but Jacobs did enough.
Can't see why some found it controversial.

It's very simple. The guy they were rooting for landed some punches and finished on his feet but did not get the decision therefore he was robbed.
I thought this was a damn good fight....................which really is the only thing I care about.................................I want to see a good fight and they gave us one.
Kudos to both fighters. I agree with the posters saying Derev probably raised his standing despite the loss.
IMO this was by far Jacobs most important win. Before last night he was just another boxer in the four belt era who had somehow failed to hold the highest belt of any sanctioning body. Can't say that now.
I hope he gets GGG or Canelo next and I don't really care which one, Jacobs vs either will be a damn good fight.
For the record my scorecard says 114-113 Jacobs
One round off the scorecards of all three judges.
Decision reasonably could have gone either way, a split decision was perfect.
Judges did a great job.

Aye you're probably right. Being too partizan affects people's ability to score a fight properly.Perseus wrote: ↑28 Oct 2018, 19:19It's very simple. The guy they were rooting landed some punches and finished on his feet but did not get the decision therefore he was robbed.

They were just automatically giving almost every single round to J on their TV scorecard. Clearly the fix was in. Do you remember when the tv talking head doing the tv scorecard, Lederman, said Jacobs "obviously" won round 3? Even the other tv talking head questioned that, but the 3rd tv talking head didn't want to get involved. The knockdown in round one was nothing much. D's hands touched the mat and that was about it. D was the aggressor throughout and threw and landed the most punches.

I don't think so either, tho admittedly i was watching on a small screen and couldn't see all the details, but D was totally the aggressor throughout and it looked to me that he was both throwing and landing more punches. If you're going by the Punchstats, those are only slightly more honest than judge scoring, both being compiled by the same crew. I thought that D won but i would have settled for a draw, but listening to Max Kellerman and his friends - until i turned off the sound - it was clear to me that the fix was in and D would need a KO to win. That being said, both are extremely good. I'd like to see a rematch .

..irrespective of the result in this particular case which may or may not be correct, I will ALWAYS have second thoughts if the state commission appoints up to 4 nationals to officiate which I believe was/is the case..
Re: Round-by-Round: Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko - October 27, 2018
Lol, yeah let's just take away one of if not the single best moment for Jacobs while we're at it. KD was legit. Though yeah, I echo your gripe with the tv presentation. Stopped HBO subscription long ago.Ilya Muromets wrote: ↑28 Oct 2018, 22:31
