Luis Ortiz previously tested positive for banned substances twice within a three-year period, he’s turned down big payday opportunities to face the likes of Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte, as well as suffering a legitimate loss to Deontay Wilder the last time out, with the Cuban having not earned his second shot at the title.
So I feel compelled to support another victory for Deontay Wilder. And I expect the American to beat Ortiz in much more impressive fashion in the rematch.
I know of two occasions when Whyte turned down fights with Ortiz. Ortiz's manager claims they have never got an offer from Whyte.
The Joshua fight was foolish to turn down, but was short notice.
Wasn't Ortiz's last Ped test about his blood pressure meds so he wasnt suspended?
On the 25th April 2018, the WBC officially ordered the final eliminator between Luis Ortiz and Dillian Whyte.
The Cuban allegedly declined the opportunity to face Dillian Whyte on the 28th July 2018, which was accompanied with a $2.54m purse offer, because he claimed the scheduled fight-date was too soon for him. However, Ortiz actually ended up fighting on that date anyway, when he engaged in the preposterous Razvan Cojanu mismatch.
This assertion was communicated to the media by Eddie Hearn and Dillian Whyte. And I don’t believe this claim has been refuted by the Cuban’s team.
Meanwhile, Dillian Whyte had to find an alternative opponent for his 28th July bout, so he chose to face an even better fighter named Joseph Parker.
Eddie Hearn also claimed that Luis Ortiz rejected multiple offers to face Anthony Joshua.
The Cuban’s team initially refuted those claims, by stating that they’d been low-balled (apparently a $7m offer wasn’t enough, despite Ortiz’s career-high purse being $500K), but when the Matchroom boss threatened to expose their lies, they eventually came clean and conceded the errors of their ways.
So even if you found evidence of Team Ortiz refuting Dillian Whyte’s claim, how reliable are they? Can you really trust what they say, when they've openly admitted to lying?
All I know is that I can prove that Eddie and Dillian made those claims about Luis Ortiz.
In terms of Luis Ortiz testing banned substances, which can be used to enhance athletic performance, the Cuban never disclosed he was taking the drugs under “Medications Currently Being Used” when he filed his Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) paperwork.
He only decided to formulate the prescribed medication excuse
after being caught out for the second time.
This was during an era when the WBC also allowed Bermane Stiverne to escape a suspension for consuming banned substances. He only received a $75K fine.
Finally, I am supremely confident that you cannot provide any evidence whatsoever to support your assertion that Team Ortiz submitted financial offers to Dillian Whyte in an attempt to make a fight between the pair. It didn’t happen.
