The Duran excuses make no sense whatsoever.
As for McCall, maybe it had something to do with drugs, don't know. Seemed more like some sort of mental breakdown, but I don't know.

Re: Duran vs Leonard II and Lewis vs McCall II: Your Opinions.
Duran was known for massive weight gains between fights when he was a Lightweight. This was nothing new. Freddy Brown, Ray Arcel and Carlos Eleta all said he quit.
Re: Duran vs Leonard II and Lewis vs McCall II: Your Opinions.
Ruiz was in better shape for AJ 1, then AJ 2? No?
Re: Duran vs Leonard II and Lewis vs McCall II: Your Opinions.
He did quit. That would be impossible to debate. Wouldn't have bothered me if his purse was withheld, it wasn't.

I think it makes perfect sense. Duran made a series of stupid decisions.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑19 May 2020, 20:20 The Duran excuses make no sense whatsoever.

Re: Duran vs Leonard II and Lewis vs McCall II: Your Opinions.

Doesn't compare to the Duran situation.
Re: Duran vs Leonard II and Lewis vs McCall II: Your Opinions.
I don't think any of us in these 2 pages are really arguing about anything. We're just using words differently.
Duran is a legend. Ruiz not so much, but it's fair to say a common denominator is they both won the first time and came in much worse shape and lost the 2nd time at least partly due to their own poor decisions and lack of discipline. I don't see anyone here condoning their decisions or comparing a legend to a flash in the pan.
Re: Duran vs Leonard II and Lewis vs McCall II: Your Opinions.
I read many times that SRL got the rematch turned around fast knowing that Duran liked to party around and get out of shape between fights. Not news here. I see your point, but to OTO's point, when was Ruiz ever in shape?Tony1244 wrote: ↑20 May 2020, 17:51I don't think any of us in these 2 pages are really arguing about anything. Ruiz has never been in shape. I wrote somewhere he should be 220 (he's never come close). His condition was somewhat less horrendous in AJ 1. When I wrote "better shape" that's obviously very relative.oogiebe wrote: ↑20 May 2020, 17:53I read many times that SRL got the rematch turned around fast knowing that Duran liked to party around and get out of shape between fights. Yes, I had read the exact same thing about SRL getting the rematch. He chalked that up to winning part of the fight outside of the ring. Duran bought it hook, line, and sinker.

He was Partying for 5 months? Come on.
Why is 5 months such a quick turn around? Duran usually fought frequently.
Duran didn't have to fight that soon if he didn't want to.
Duran looked in the same shape as the first fight.
I'ts all BS, crybaby excuses for Duran who was not good enough and quit like a dog.

Nothing fair comparing those situations in any way.Tony1244 wrote: ↑20 May 2020, 17:51I don't think any of us in these 2 pages are really arguing about anything. We're just using words differently.

We all agree, Duran didn't have to fight so soon. Thats what I meant by Duran buying into it. I'm sure Duran was weak for some of his other fights, but he wasn't fighting SRL.
Duran may have lost even if he never gained weight and was in perfect condition. I never said otherwise.SR also fought a smarter fight the 2nd time.

Duran partied, whatever, he made weight. Nothing remotely the same as a fat bum being more fat. Lmao

Tony is the frontrunner for worst analogy ever.
Re: Duran vs Leonard II and Lewis vs McCall II: Your Opinions.
There are far worse on here.
Re: Duran vs Leonard II and Lewis vs McCall II: Your Opinions.
I don't think you even understand the analogy.
Re: Duran vs Leonard II and Lewis vs McCall II: Your Opinions.
They both weren't ready for the rematch. Of course for somewhat different reasons. Put down the bottle, or pick up the bottle, whichever works.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑20 May 2020, 18:21 Duran partied, whatever, he made weight. Nothing remotely the same as a fat bum being more fat. Lmao

Making weight doesn't mean you're in good shape.Tony1244 wrote: ↑20 May 2020, 18:45They both weren't ready for the rematch. Of course for somewhat different reasons.
