Avenyson is not the right guy.
They were good , and they were good wins ,,, BUT Toney and Roy Jones were the men , with Jones beating Toney ,, Benn was good , but he stayed away from the main players
Mike's too old now, I was talking to him at the Co-OP in Leeds where he was visiting his mam.forcefraser wrote: ↑13 Dec 2021, 06:50 Why not see if Mike McCallum will come out of retirement for a British title clash?
About time Benn fought some domestic opposition

I'd be happy with any of them

My bad. For some reason I thought he was a welter.
I’d be happy with those except Essuman as I think he’s a step back. Jenkins is his best win and I never particularly rated Jenkins.peter barlow wrote: ↑13 Dec 2021, 08:53 Josesito Lopez, Broner, Avanesyan, Kavaliauskas, Essuman, McKinson, Stanionis

Ava done him twice at 147 then he moved up
I think Essuman is a tough night for Benn but really it's probably the least likely fight to happen. Be interesting where Essuman goes from here.maverick23 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2021, 10:32I’d be happy with those except Essuman as I think he’s a step back. Essuman’s a decent prospect but that’s all I think at the moment. He fought Peynoud last year and whilst he was a clear winner it was still a competitive fight. Was similar to Benn’s performance in the rematch and I think Benn has stopped on massively since then and whilst I think Essuman has also improved I think he’s a level or two below Benn.peter barlow wrote: ↑13 Dec 2021, 11:22I think Essuman is a tough night for Benn but really it's probably the least likely fight to happen. Agreed he shown a great improvement , something in the fight though made me wonder if Chris had hurt his right hand , he certainly dd'nt throw it much , but could be he respected Benns power and did'nt want to risk a counter ,,, BUT has much has i concied Benn looked wel improved , i still say its easy to do that when the guy in front cannot hurt you and is not fighting full time , plus slowed with age . He has done very well to reach the level he's at in such a short carreer , just wish he'd shut his mouth with the hard man act he'd be a lot more likableCoco wrote: ↑13 Dec 2021, 19:31 While of course Benn has been matched carefully, he also has been matched well and def has been brought on great.
The difference from when he went pro without am experience is incredible.
Who knows whether he will be good enough to be a genuine euro or world champ but most didn't think he would be good enough to win a British.
I would have picked Jenkins against him a couple of years back, but if they were matched now we would be having a right go for picking a soft option.
It's one thing bowling over soft touches without showing any craft but this Algeri fella was no mug.
What Benn demonstrated to me which is hugely important at this level was the ability not to get hit, great head and foot movement.
Furthermore he really set up the KO and showed impressive power.
The way he ducked and dived, slipping shots was reminiscent of his father.

That's the opposite of what's going to happen. I'd love that too.
Look at Algeri - past it, can't punch, no danger.
I agree with a lot of what you’re saying but not sure the Ricky comparison is fair.black panther wrote: ↑14 Dec 2021, 03:57KiwiRider wrote: ↑12 Dec 2021, 17:33black panther wrote: ↑12 Dec 2021, 04:31 Someone who presents some danger, can punch and isn't completely past it.

Yes exactly mate. You always have to question a prospect when the management avoid anyone remotely dangerous.
Do they know something - that maybe Benn can't take a punch?
His old man faced plenty dangerous fighters on the way up. Even Hatton who was relatively protected fought some punchers before Tszyu.
For me what it comes down to is do Benn and his team see Conor as merely a cash cow or a fighter with genuine World title aspirations. If its the former, they'll continue to talk about tough fights whilst avoiding them and build his hype by knocking over non punching never was or has beens.
But if its the latter they'll need to put him in with someone who presents some danger to develop him as a fighter in a multitude of ways. Nothing like facing a puncher to sharpen and test your defence and also your ability to get through moments of crisis when hurt.
Did you see the first Paynard fight?black panther wrote: ↑14 Dec 2021, 03:57KiwiRider wrote: ↑12 Dec 2021, 17:33black panther wrote: ↑12 Dec 2021, 04:31 Someone who presents some danger, can punch and isn't completely past it.
