My understanding is that they needed a channel on Sky to have DAZN be shown in pubs. I’d imagine it’s something to do with pub contracts with Sky that means they can only show stuff through Sky and no one else.
Having a channel on Sky isn’t crazy expensive. The Sky fee is around £100k a year for a channel and Sky can’t reject you unless completely valid. I.E. they can’t show bias but rejecting a channel simply because it’s a competitor to Sky Sports.
They’d also have to pay someone to broadcast their signal. I’ve always used Arqiva in the past which was €12k/month.
If it was that cheap begs the question why they didn't start off like this?

There’s no point having a channel unless you’ve got enough content. With the boxing, PFL stuff, pro wrestling, women’s champions league they’ve probably got enough now to be able to not have to show the same stuff day after day.
I’d also imagine Sky made it a long winded process for them.

Well 1 then! They had the tv rights to that as well.
Sure but I wouldn’t have thought the first match would have been as profitable as the Saudi rematch for all involved.
I bet the Franklin fight is a huge dip for all.
I’d imagine so but I’d also say that Matchroom will probably be earning a decent wedge still. Of course will be impossible for it to get close to the reported Saudi money.
The DAZN move has been poor for the boxers exposure wise but some may well have made good money from it.
It’s been good for Matchroom though. Record profits show that and that’s their primary motivation. They just may not have a great roster left at the end of their deal unless DAZN are able to get other rights in the U.K. and they’ve given an opportunity for their competition to expand.
You may or may not care …. But most people would appreciate the option.
No one is going to pay for both.
The option was taken away from people who committed to the £99.
dazn are a commercial outfit, not a democratic party who need to get approval b4 they make business decisions
Why are you defending the indefensible?
I know your username contains Daz, but seriously?
You can use that excuse to justify Shell destroying environments where they drill.
I would guess their streaming platform has been designed the way it has, and currently it’s too complicated to align the customer log in feature with the new linear channel set up. Maybe over time they’ll work it out. Would be interesting to know in other countries where they have linear channels.
Who are you the judge and jury on what’s indefensible ?

He says his name is daz but constantly defends dazn whenever its mentioned. He works for hearn/dazn as he's on every single post about them whenever DAZN is mentioned.

My name is Darren hence the nick name Daz..

I thought Matchroom Boxing's greatest turnover and profit was year ending 2019?

2019 was helped by some chunky money from their overseas owned businesses (£3.6m) - it would have been from one of their country specific boxing entities but I can’t see what’s in there and whether it’s some sort of tax write off or whether it’s genuine income.
Operating profit for y/e June 2022 was £12.6m vs £9.8m of 2019 but net profit was higher in 2019 because of the above.
It seems their revenue has come down massively but I’d imagine it’s down to how the deals work. I.e. previously Sky would pay Matchroom all of the non-Sky share of the PPV shows and they then distribute to the fighters whilst that model is probably different now so someone like Canelo is paid directly by DAZN I’d guess.

Accounts lodged with Companies House are notoriously hard to unpick and often give no indication of a companies true position!
The main issue is that they’re out of date. You have 9 months to file following a year end most companies that are private tend to make use of it. You can still take a fair bit from them though.
Still no Premier League football on the new contract for DAZN with SKY & TNT carrying on and SKY having the vast majority of matches now. Wonder what that does for the budget for boxing etc ?
DAZN were very clear that they wanted Premier League, Champions League and F1.
Premier League tied up now til 2030.
Champs League tied up til 2027
F1 tied up til 2029.
Unless DAZN can do some kind of strategic deal, and the Discovery torpedo shows how small they are, then I stand by my guns that they are pretty much done as a serious channel in the UK, and probably the US too.
