He's getting a proper hiding if he ever gets a crack at a world title. Both of them looked miles away from anything aproaching world-class boxing.
:salut:
But as a British title fight, it was good. Kelly has already been found wanting at Euro level. He could well some day get the European if Ava drops it.
I thought it was poor for British level to be honest. Williamson didn't seem to have a clue about feints or setting up his shots and his punches seemed pedestrian. Kelly threw some shocking haymakers and his "elusiveness" was more to do with Williamson's predictability than Kelly's supposed preternatural abibilities. Kelly never beats a solid European level boxer.
I was of the mind that if Williamson could clip Kelly at any stage of the fight, it would take an abrupt turn. As another poster succinctly put it, Kelly is an "on top" fighter. Look how quickly he folded against Ava.
So that was the factor that kept me focused to the end. And credit to Kelly, he maintained his momentum and shut Williamson out.

Hands down style looks great when it's right, but can lead to messy fights as it's usually leading to tying up the opposition when in close.

Yep, it got messier as the fight went on which made for very frustrating viewing :witzend:

On the plus side....Kelly was head & shoulders above Williamson, boxed circles around him and should really have stopped him emphatically.

It often looked like a championship boxer against a raw novice.

Flashes of sheer brilliance from Kelly but also far too much running, posing and holding.

Overall I'm still inclined to believe that Kelly and his team think he's a lot better than he actually is.
Winning the British title and whipping Williamson in the process is a good start and we'll see how things go from here.

For his part Williamson never stopped trying but was made to look silly for 12 rounds.

Still, always good to see a boxer with another country's flag on their shorts get thrashed beyond belief when boxing for the British title :OhYes:

5 months since this fight.
Neither of them fought since.
Neither has a fight lined up.
Wtf is the matter with british boxing atm.
Could have picked any number of fighters, but these two are from my region and spark my interest.
Inactivity is dreadful, even with aspiring contenders such as these two who should be chomping at the bit to fight minimum 3 times a year.

Josh kelly is starting to fall into the waste of tallent catagory which is sad cause he is an entertaining fighter... Brittish title defences shouldent take 6 months.... should be out there in 4 months, do it again, bang bang bang and onto worlds.

My thoughts too. I think Kelly should look at fighting Green or pushing on. He's marketable

He’s with Wasserman who get very few C5 dates a year. Bad move IMO.

What a shambles. Massive win over a local rival on terrestrial tele followed by at least 6 months out of the ring & now fighting on Dazn with no one watching.

What a way to lose all the momentum he’d got.
