x2 - Fury bossed the earlier rounds of the first fight until he got figured out. The fact Usyk figured him out in fight 1 carried on into this one. I think when Fury watches it back he'll be disappointed with how little impact he made tonight.Grilling Machine wrote: ↑21 Dec 2024, 20:11Same as Keith, I felt Fury did better in their first fight. Fury missed with his right uppercut several times tonight, as Usyk was wise to jink to his own right away from them.
Apart from a couple of close rounds I found this rematch easier to score. Fury was visibly ragged in the last two.

In terms of natural talent he doesn't really have an "A grade attribute" but his conditioning/discipline, boxing IQ and mental toughness are second to none.
None of the heavyweights left on the scene provide an interesting fight for him IMO and Usyk at nearly 38 doesn't have more to prove. Really the only fighter I think would be interesting is Opetai.

Yep. He looked very tentative at times, looked out of sorts when switching and his nervous tick of tapping his face was worse than usual.TBA wrote: ↑21 Dec 2024, 20:12 I think Fury felt that if he pushed the fight more, that Usyk would put him on his ass.
Shame because I thought he had decoded Usyk in the first when he consistently went hard to the body in the mid rounds.
The thing that changed that fight was the nosebreak that led to the KD and not the KD itself.
Anyways back to this fight, think Fury played for points, kept it close without over committing and expected the decision. Didn't happen.

But he wasn't on the front foot all the time.

Yes, Usyk achieved everything he could. There is nobody at HW who can really challenge him.
Too bad we will never see him against his amature rival, Beterbiev.

I thought this was somehow more decisive than the first fight. In fight one, there was a period from about rd 3 to rd 6 or 7 -- I don't remember exactly -- when Fury was clearly bossing the fight and breaking down his opponent. Even when Usyk stemmed the tide, it was close until the knockdown. In this fight, Usyk was better throughout, and even the rounds Fury won were relatively close.
Usyk is a superb boxer, and importantly he's uncommonly busy for a heavyweight. In that sense, he's something of a throwback to mid 20th century heavyweights.
I can imagine the sort of fighter who could beat Usyk (beyond a puncher's chance), but I cannot see anybody around at present who has those attributes. Although, as you'll notice, I'm not as into boxing as I used to be. Maybe the Fury who fought from Wilder 1 to Wilder 2 would have had a shot, but not this version.

Usyk was savage saying his wife helped him prepare after Fury saying he didn’t speak to his wife for 3 months.

The 3rd judge has the most reasonable picture.

If nothing else, I do hope this puts to rest the stupid idea that 'smaller' heavyweights wouldn't stand a chance against the super heavies of today.

Re: Round-by-Round: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury II | PPV - 21 December 2024
I've said it throughout Fury's career, his right hand is strange. Its like he cant throw it properly sometimes. Sure at times he has a decent right cross, right uppercut, straight right, SOMETIMES, but he is often gangly with the right and it looks to me like he cant always get it off properly. I was willing him throughout the fight to throw the right but for the best part he just could not do it, he struggled to get the right off most of the rounds. If he was looser and busier with the right he could have won that fight tonight, IMO.

And they are a lot more exciting to watch. Hopefully gone are the days of top level heavies gassing after 4-5 rounds too.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑21 Dec 2024, 20:21 If nothing else, I do hope this puts to rest the stupid idea that 'smaller' heavyweights wouldn't stand a chance against the super heavies of today.
You won't beat DDD, Parker, Hrg or Kayabel doing that.

100% with you on that brother. I also hope it puts to bed the 'fat is better' argument.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑21 Dec 2024, 20:21 If nothing else, I do hope this puts to rest the stupid idea that 'smaller' heavyweights wouldn't stand a chance against the super heavies of today.

Prefer when heavies are in shape and not just plodding away.
We get a lot of heavies recently that are just fat.

Although I play my role as a fan boy on here, I am very realistic in real life on Tyson... I don't think he's been good since and during Wilder 3. The signing of the Del fight was a huge red flag and the Ngannou performance shocking. I believe he trained his hardest and tried his best with Usyk but it just wasn't enough. I thought he fought better in the first fight.

Re: Round-by-Round: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury II | PPV - 21 December 2024
In some ways this was a better performance from Usyk, because Fury seemed in control at the start. But he stayed patient and so unfazed and unlike fight 1, really hard to see a case for fury if there was a fight 3 cos Fury was so much better and still came up short and also this time he didn’t hurt Usyk in the same way.
First time since ever I doubted Usyk coming in round 6, but he proved me wrong.

Actually, Fury being past prime after Wilder 3 is a good discussion.mickey1975 wrote: ↑21 Dec 2024, 20:25 Although I play my role as a fan boy on here, I am very realistic in real life on Tyson...
