Norton did fall downwards toward the canvas but the elastic ropes caught him propped him up and put him on his feet again
enough for him to stagger around in a daze..
LaDoux wasn't able to go forward and mount an attack in those last seconds because Norton's back was completely towards him

or the fight could have been scheduled for late 1974 or 1975 shortly after Lyle's win over Jimmy Ellis.
all I know is that in late 1978 Ron Lyle reportedly won the lawsuit for breach of contract..
( it is mentioned in the book OFF THE ROPES but no details mentioned)

I don't know how anyone can argue with passion about something so subjective. Although I realize that it's done here all the time.

It's safe to say that by October 1979, both Lyle and Norton were passed their best days.

Norton's skills leveled off dramatically after the classic Holmes fight in 1978.

And Lyle probably started a slow trek downward after his battle royal with Foreman in 1976.

Norton's aging legs looked shot against trial horse Ledoux. He barely hung around to deserve the verdict. Months earlier Shavers took him apart in minutes.

Lyle would get iced quickly by journeyman Ball shortly after the projected October 1979 date.

Where's the certainty come from that one of these eroded warriors could beat the other?

Both were in decline. Lyle was slow and ponderous. The shots were heavy but didn't have the same thunderous snap as years earlier.

Norton, whose legs were always stiff, now could barely move forward. From the waist up he seemed to still be a capable fighter, but he stuttered and wobbled whenever he was hit solidly.

I'd slightly favor Norton who still hand much better hand speed than Lyle at this point.

But I'm a gambler. And I wouldn't touch that fight if offered 5-1.

Monroe was a decent, but not outstanding puncher.

Marty Monroe was a sparring partner to Ron Lyle,and I think he broke Lyle's nose
when Lyle was preparing to fight Lynn Ball.

It's really sad. They say he was molested by someone he knew, and he told his mother, and she didn't believe him. What happened with concerning the 16 year old was just WRONG.
