Edgar Perkins of the Salem Crescent AC won two New York Daily News Golden Gloves Championships. Perkins won the 1951 112lb Novice Championship and the 1952 118lb Open Championship. Perkins stopped(RSC-1) Alexander Tisi in the finals to win the 1951 title and in 1952 Perkins KO'd Tony Vaillant of the CYO in the first round in the finals to win the Championship. Perkins trained at the Salem Crescent Athletic Club.
1952 representing New York won an Intercity Golden Gloves' title in the bantamweight division stopping Richard Cassady at 2:02 of the 2nd.
