- Alvarez, brother of Saul Alvarez. was dropped in third and eighth rounds. The knockdowns cost him a majority draw on the scorecards.
- Thompson took a knee in a corner in the tenth round after getting hit with a rabbit punch off the break by Alvarez, who was warned by referee Vic Drakulich. No foul was called, and Thompson went down to clear his head. The referee did not count, and told him to get up.
- Thompson had concern Alvarez would get preferential treatment on the cards due to his brother, Canelo Alvarez being involved in the main event and promoting the fights.
