Notes
- Alvarez is the younger brother of Ramon Alvarez, Ricardo Alvarez and former interim WBA light middleweight champion Rigoberto Alvarez.
- Made his professional debut on October 29, 2005, just three months after his 15th birthday.
- Given the nickname "Canelo" (Spanish for cinnamon) because of his red hair.
- Alvarez tested positive for two drug tests after his bout with Gennady Golovkin. His rematch with Golovkin was called off. Alvarez later decided not to enroll into the WBC's clean boxing programme, and was therefore removed from their rankings.
- Alvarez is the second boxer to hold world titles in three different weight divisions simultaneously. However his feat does not compare to that of Henry Armstrong who was the Lineal Champion at 126lbs, 147lbs and 135lbs simultaneously. Whereas Canelo was only the Lineal Champion in one division (160lbs) and the Ring Magazine/WBA Champion at 168lbs. He also held the WBO title at 175lbs.
- He is the fourth former junior-middleweight titleholder to also win a belt at light heavyweight after Tommy Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard & Mike McCallum.
- Alvarez is the first four-belt world champion at 168 pounds and the sixth man to be a four-belt champion in boxing history.
- On May 3rd, 2025 Canelo & Scull set a new record for the fewest punches thrown in a 12-round fight tracked by CompuBox in the punch counter's 40-year history. In total, just 445 punches were thrown over the distance: Canelo with 152 punches and Scull with 293 punches.
