Bout Summary

Manny Pacquiao, winning at age 40, outworked Adrien Broner on the punch count, coming forward with consistent aggression to land twice as many punches than Broner. For his part, Broner moved well, and kept his emotions in check, but won only two of the 12 rounds on most press scorecards at ringside. Broner cried foul to commentator Jim Gray after the bout, stating he won, and the entire MGM Grand Arena was influenced by the presence of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and the public's desire to see a rematch between Floyd and Pacquiao. Scoring appeared neutral and fair. By bout's end, Broner was in survival mode, not trying to win, earning boos from the crowd. Besides Floyd and co-commentator Paul Malignaggi, the who's who at the MGM Grand included champions Deontay Wilder, Errol Spence, Mikey Garcia and Claressa Shields at ringside. When interviewed live midway during the bout, Floyd categorized Pacquiao versus Broner in progress as an interesting chess match. So it was.
