Al Hostak 159 lbs beat Swede Berglund 163 lbs by TKO in round 2 of 10

  • Date: 1938-03-01
  • Location: Civic Auditorium, Seattle, Washington, USA
  • Referee: Rod Murphy

Berglund kept Hostak at bay with his jab in the 1st round, as he appeared to have an edge. Hostak landed a big right hand to the head in the 2nd round, that put Berglund down for an eight-count. Hostak then draped Berglund on the ropes with another right, for an eight-count. Hostak again sent Berglund through the ropes with a right hand, and the referee dispensed with the count and raised Hostak's hand.

Seattle promoter Nate Druxman made an offer to middleweight world champion Freddie Steele to face Hostak in July for $25,000. Steele who attended the match, made a counter-offer of $60,000, through his manager Eddie Miller.

Berglund's manager George Parnassus was unable to make it to Seattle, due to weather related problems that canceled his flight from Los Angeles.
