Career Overview

• Challenged Terry Norris for the WBC super welterweight title on December 13, 1991, and lost by a lopsided twelve-round unanimous decision.
• Became the first boxer to go the distance with Roy Jones Jr. in a professional fight. Jones, who was 17-0 with 17 knockouts, won by a lopsided ten-round unanimous decision on June 30, 1992.
• Defeated Reggie Johnson by a twelve-round split decision to win the vacant WBA middleweight title on August 12, 1994.
• Defeated John David Jackson by a ninth-round TKO to retain the WBA middleweight title on December 10, 1994. Castro, who was battered and far behind on points, dropped Jackson three times in the ninth round. The fight was named Fight of the Year by The Ring Magazine, and the ninth round was named Round of the Year.
• Lost the WBA middleweight title in his fifth defense, dropping a twelve-round unanimous decision to Shinji Takehara on December 19, 1995.
• Challenged Juan Carlos Gomez for the WBC cruiserweight title on December 16, 2000, and lost by a tenth-round TKO.
• Challenged Vassiliy Jirov for the IBF cruiserweight title on February 1, 2002, and lost by a twelve-round unanimous decision.
• Badly injured in a car accident on June 17, 2005.
