This was the second time Moran fought for the World Heavyweight Championship. The first time was on June 27, 1914, when he lost to Jack Johnson by a 20-round decision in Paris, France.
Willard received $47,500 and Moran got $23,750.
The fight drew a crowd that paid $151,254.
This was a no decision bout.
Willard was a 2 to 1 favorite to win a consensus verdict among the ringside press. Odds were 3 to 1 that Willard would not knock out Moran and 5 to 1 that Moran would not stop Willard.
