Won Michigan Golden Gloves at Flyweight on Feb 15, 1935.
In 1937 Jimmy Urso, elder brother of Patsy Urso, won the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions by decision vs. Johnny Noto of Chicago, at flyweight. He had been a member of the 1936 USA Olympic Games Team.
On May 28, 1937, in Chicago, as a member of the Chicago Golden Gloves Team representing the United States vs. Europe, Urso was awarded the verdict vs. Gavino Matta of Italy, also in the flyweight division.
