Johnny Greco began boxing at the the age of seven at the Griffentown Boys Club in Montreal's West End neighborhood of Notre Dame de Grace. He was a popular attraction for Montreal promoter Raoul Godbout, as well as a ranked contender in the Lightweight and Welterweight divisions. He was featured on the covers of the July 1943 & Dec. 1946 The Ring magazine. He had 105 career bouts (14 in Madison Square Garden, with 11 of those as main events), with 13 losses, according to his obituary in the New York Times.
Greco died when his car skidded on ice in the Montreal suburb of Westmount, crashed into a tree, and he suffered a broken neck. A bachelor, he was survived by his parents and two sisters.
