  • In the boxing rankings as of December 8, compiled by Dan Rafael for USA Today and published on December 9, Golota was ranked seventh best heavyweight in the world, with Brewster ranked right after him. Brewster was criticized for his performance in the latest title defense against Kali Meehan, especially as Meehan was dominated and stopped in four by Hasim Rahman in his next bout. Neither Golota's nor Brewster's next opponent was known at the time.[1]
  • On December 22, Holota's advisor Dan Escalet confirmed that Golota had signed the contract.[2]
  • On January 18, Brewster confirmed that Golota fight was signed.[3][4]
  • Originally planned for March 12, it was pushed back twice - first to April 16, then to May 21.
  • Tickets finally went on sale March 19.
  • Golota was knocked down three times in 53 seconds – all by left hooks.
  • Fastest win in the history of world heavyweight title fights.
  • Golota lost in a third title try in a row, and fourth title try overall.
