Lew Farber was the elder brother of fellow boxers Mickey Farber and Maxie Farber. (They had a non-boxing brother, Abe, and and sisters, Dora, Mae, and Eva. A sister, Lillian, died during Flu epidemic of 1919.)

Between 1931 and 1938, Farber was rated as high as #3 in the world in the Bantamweight and Featherweight divisions by The Ring magazine. Claimed the Junior Featherweight Champioship of the World after defeating Cris Pineda in March of 1935 in Manila PI.
