Mickey Farber was the younger brother of boxer Lew Farber. He once fought as "Maxie Farber," but should not be confused with the lightweight Maxie Farber, his brother, who fought several years earlier. Mickey Farber did not turn pro late until 1935 or early 1936. (They also had a non-boxing brother, Abe, and sisters, Dora, Mae, and Eva. A sister, Lillian, died during Flu epidemic of 1919.)

He died at Brooklyn, New York, April 28, 1988, and was survived by two daughters, four grandchildren, and two great-grandsons.
