The light welterweight division is said to have been first created by the New York Walker Law in 1920. The division was first recognized by Boxing Blade and also sanctioned by the National Boxing Association (NBA) in 1922. This weight class can be divided into three distinct historical periods: 1922-1935, 1946, and 1959-present.
