Timeline

  • On March 30, Hrgovic told The Ring Magazine that the multi-fight deal he had signed with Queensberry Promotions included Itauma as one of the possible opponents for his second fight (the first fight was against Dave Allen).[1][2][3] This was later confirmed by Frank Warren.[4]
  • Deal with Itauma signed by June 18.[5][6][7]
  • Announced on June 19.[8][9]
  • On July 2, Hrgovic revealead that the deal he had signed for the Itauma fight guaranteed him a shot against the WBO Heavyweight Champion (Daniel Dubois) in case of victory.[10]

The Fight

  • Hrgovic down in the second after a left hook.
  • Though Itauma seemingly won every round, he started showing visible signs of fatigue at the equator.
  • Likely realizing this, Itauma went for broke in the seventh and eighth but Hrgovic withstood the storm.
  • By the ninth round Itauma's gas tank was completely empty. Sensing this, Hrgovic went on the attack. As Itauma was barely standing on his feet, his corner threw in the towel.
  • "He is the best I have been in the ring with, but he needs more experience. I knew I was losing the round, but I knew that I had the pace in my favour. He needs more experience, but he is one of a kind," Hrgovic said in a post-fight interview.[11]
