Swift was involved in two bouts in which his opponent died of injuries sustained during the contest: Anthony Noon, and William Phelps. Another of his opponents, George Murray, died 9 days after his fight with Swift, but this was due to severe cold and influenza, not due to injuries he received in the bout.
